Agadir ( word that means " fortified granary collective " in Tamazight2 ; Tifinagh : ⴰⴳⴰⴷⵉⵔ , Arabic أڭادير ) is a city in southwestern Morocco , located on the Atlantic coast, in the Souss region , 508 miles south of Casablanca , 173 km from Essaouira and 235 km west of Marrakech3 . It is the capital of the administrative region of Souss -Massa- Draa and the Prefecture of Agadir Ida Outanane .

The population of the metropolitan area of Greater Agadir in 2012 is estimated at about 900 000 inhabitants. The city currently has about 600,000 habitants1,4 ( Gadiris in French , Gougadir / Oultougadir in tachelhit , Gadiri / Gadiria in Arabic) , and the town, with neighboring cities , and Aït Melloul Inzegane 600 000. According to the 2004 census , Agadir had that year habitants5 346,106 and the population of the prefecture of Agadir Ida Outanane was 487,954 habitants5 . This is one of the main urban centers of Morocco , seventh agglomeration of the country after Casablanca, Rabat , Fez, Marrakech , Meknes and Tangier. The population density is quite high . Three languages are spoken in the city : Arabic ( Darija essentially , the Moroccan Arabic dialect ) ; the tachelhit (or Berber) by the Amazigh ( Berbers or Chleuhs Icelḥiyen ) ; and French .
The seaside : Lively and dynamic tourism seaside boulevard consists of 20 August , Tawada Avenue , Boulevard de la Corniche, the avenue of Wadi Souss , and Founty district Baie des Palmiers . It has numerous hotels , restaurants, modern cafes and residential villas .
A large beautification project of the city is being finished . Agadir has thus adopted a beautiful walkway waterfront about 5 kilometers. A recent marina with many luxury stores was built at the foot of the Casbah and at the mouth of Wadi Tildi .
Casbah, Agadir Oufella : Casbah (Agadir Oufella , Agadir Agadir up or not Ighir , Agadir Hill ) was with Founti that stretched his foot in front of the sea , the oldest district of Agadir . Authentic fortress with winding streets and lively , it was built in 1572 by Moulay Abdallah el- Ghalib . Above the front door , you can read the inscription in Arabic and Dutch " Fear God and honor the King."
The proud fortress , there remains , after the earthquake of February 29, 1960 , that the long wall surrounding a restored unbuildable land , but the view is exceptional on the bay of Agadir and ports. Former Agadir remember the famous " Moorish café " of the Casbah and its panoramic views.
The hill bears the inscription in Arabic : " God, Fatherland , King " which, like the ramparts , is illuminated at night.
